    Compression test on 68 L79

Hello. I'm currently courting a lovely '64 coupe with a '68 L79 (327/350) and looking to buy. It will be my first corvette!

Anyhow, we're going to do a compression test since the miles on the engine are unknown. What kind of readings are considered "good"? What type of symmetry should I look for between cylinders.?
Can anyone give me some more advice to try and determine the amount of miles and the condition of the engine? It runs strong, idles well, and does not smoke, and has no "clacking" or "ticking" that is noticible.

Is there a website that has basic information like this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

Better to do a leakdown test, but the primary areas to watch on a compression test is the first pump (should be over 90#) and the high readings should not fluctuate more than 20 lbs from highest to lowest cylinder for a "good" engine. Info is available in Service manual or other auto repair manuals of that era.
