During a recent judging, several bolts/screws were deducted because they were painted black instead of being black oxide. How can I correct the finish on these pieces?

Re: Black oxide finish
I live in the Atlanta area and recently took all my black oxide fasteners and parts to a local company called Kirk-Rudy. They are a manufacturing company that also does black oxide plating.

Black oxide vs. black phosphate
Richard,
Do you for certain that the bolts/screws should have been black oxide and not black phosphate? These two finishes are not the same. Many platers can do black oxide, which is typically glossier than either black phosphate or flat black paint.

Re: Black oxide vs. black phosphate
Gary,
I am at the point of plating some "black" bolts such as the rear spring 6" bolts on my C2 67. Which is correct? Black oxide or black phosphate? The bolts are already black but are "shiny" because I cleaned them on a wire wheel buffer so I really can't tell the original lustre. I have a bunch of bolts that need to be "blackened"
Thanks
