    Cowl Sealer

Can anyone tell me what I can use to replicate the black asphalt-like sealer used by the factory in the cowl area of my '76? It was quite watery and was poured over the seams, winshield wiper transmissions, etc.

There are a couple of products to consider. The first is "asphalt emulsion". This is a thin tar like substance that is water soluble until it dries and you can apply it with a brush. The second is "plastic roof cement". It contains fiber reinforcing and is solvent soluble. There is a dry and a wet type. The second can be applied to a wet surface, but it tends to turn gray with age.

I suspect the product closest to you needs is asphalt emulsion.
