Re: I agree that the time is now

to instill the love of machinery into the young who want to learn.

Todays breed are more in tune with tuning in the latest hip hop station than tuning a four barrel. We have our work cut out for us if we intend to continue the legacy of these classic beauties.

How do we as a restorer/hobbiest's keep the fires burning and more importantly keep the wrenches swinging?

About a month ago, a young man pulled into my driveway with a Toyota all tricked out and banging away with the rap @#$&*&%$$% . What did he want? directions to a party in a local park of course.

As I always do with any stranger, I met the young gent half way down the drive but was a little too late to keep him from gazing into the garage at my 68 setting on the rolling dolly.

His response was "WOW what a great looking old a Ferrari" At least he got the old part right!

I'm tempted to offer visits to the local high school shop classes to share with the young the passion of restorations.

I have a four year old grandson who is already bugging me to help on mine.

I tell ya I'm one happy Bumpa!

I am 27 and have a 62 fuelie and you are right there are not many of us out there because it is a huge sacrifice to have an old vette. I give up a lot to keep my car and am half insane to do so. Being single helps me out. I would have to say I have seen my share of vette owners that have turned me off and that is part of the problem. I have been to shows where I am ignored and it can be frustrating or people will leave talking to me only to tell someone about my dad's vette (he has never owned one) because they dont understand it is mine even though I have told them it is. Out of frustration at one of these events I cancelled my reservation for Monterey even though I dont live far away. I wish I hadn't because I would have loved to meet you guys, but my point is not all young guys are punks given the oppurtunity to embrace these cars they will. Next time a punk is glancing in the garage to see that old car offer to show them some features. I love showing my cars to kids and love seeing dad's point out the car when on the road, dont let things like that stop.
