I recently removed the fuel tank from my 1967 coupe to get a good picture of the remaining tank sticker. In doing so one of the tank anti-squeek pads was pulled off the frame due to a large amount of dealer applied undercoating. I ordered a replacement piece from a large supplier, but it was basically a type of roofing paper and not the same as the original padding. Any ideas as where to locate a similar material; I hate to remove the good pad from under the tank support bracket. Thanks,Kieran #11373

Kieran:
Your right, the parts suppliers are trying to pass off 30# roofing paper, and it's not even cut to the correct dimensions.
I went to a local roofing supply house and found a piece of 90# asphalt-saturated roofing felt. That came pretty darn close to the original.
By the way, on my '65 the strips were glue to the tank in contradiction to the AIM.

Re: Gas Tank Anti-Squeek Pad
I recently removed my tank from my 67 and it to had the anti rattle material glued to the tank with a brown adhesive which apparently had been applied to the tank (it was slopped on the tank) and then the felt strip laid on it prior to installation on the frame.- Top
