    67 Big Block fan belts

Threw the inner water pump/crank shaft belt this weekend. It took the power steering belt with it. My car has 4 belts (it has a/c).

I took it to a corvette shop to get fixed and the guy called 6 hrs later and said he was having trouble finding the correct one. He said every one the corvette parts house sent him was the wrong size.

My question is; does anyone have the part # and the maker of the right size belts?

    Sure would appreciate it.

    Thanks, Roger

They have changed the belt sizes these days and old 3/8 sized are not that any more, they are larger. Unless you buy a restoration type belt, those parts store types will just have too be fitted to the application. Since you have no adjustment that is moore difficult.

Roger, I got my wtr/pump-harm/balancer only belt from QUANTA RESTORATION PARTS, www.quantaproducts.com. I'd suggest you call and explain your engine and aux/equip belts you need for your 427.

I got my belt from them. I heard GM has them but I had already ordered mine. Plus I don't have AC. Call 1-800-235-8788. Belts at 3/8" wide. GM resto parts. Good luck,grr#33570

Keep in mind that the correct P/N belts will fit only if you have the original size pulleys. Some former owner may have swapped them!

I agree with Wayne Womble; getting the right belts for these cars can be difficult and they almost have to be fitted to the car.

The belt sizes provided in the Quanta catalog should be correct, though. I've checked these before for several applications and the original part number and length are what GM SAID they used on the cars. These belts are mostly 3/8", though, as Wayne mentioned. That's the width that was used for most, but not all, ORIGINAL applications.

The belts sold for SERVICE today are 7/16" width for most applications and REPLACE the earlier 3/8" belts. However, due to their increased width, they "ride higher" in the pulley grooves. Consequently, a longer belt is required for any given application. You can be a little off in belt length for most applications and the belt will still adjust up and work just fine. However, for captured belt applications (like water pump to crank), the length has to be EXACT since there is no adjustment.

Personally, for a driven car, I prefer the current GM SERVICE belts which are of the 7/16" width. I think that these belts are more durable and reliable than reproduction belts. For a driver, durability and RELIABILITY are very important attributes.
