Recently, I had to have some machine work done in connection with my "ZL-1" project (finally!). I took the work to the machine shop that I have used for over 30 years, but some of the work was too specialized for them. So, they recommended another shop in the area. This other shop has also been in business for a long time and has an outstanding reputation, but I had never even been there.
Well, now I've been there, inspected the shop, had them do work for me, and I've spent quite a bit of time talking with the shop owner and some of the machinests. As some of you might know, I'm a fastidious and discriminating sort of guy when it comes to things automotive. In fact, years ago a Chevrolet dealership's service manager called me a service manager's worst nightmare (he and I later became good friends, though). And, I've gotten a LOT worse since then because I've learned a lot more. In any event, when it comes to things automotive and automotive expertise, I'm VERY HARD to impress. But, with respect to this shop, I AM IMPRESSED. After this experience I would not entrust my work to any other shop. Of course, I really don't have a lot of engine machine work or other automotive machine work to be done since I'm only involved in my own projects. Many machine shop operations I have the equipment to perform myself [but ONLY for myself; I don't do ANY work for others]. But, I certainly don't have Bridgeport mills and Sunnen cylinder honing equipment and other such things.
Anyway, for folks requiring engine machine work or, even, complete engine rebuilding, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this shop. In fact, so much so that, if it were me and I had to have an engine shipped there for work, I'd do it. The shop is called S&S Automotive and they're located at 14127 Washington Avenue in San Leandro, CA. Phone number is 510-357-9041.
By the way, in case it's not obvious, I am NOT connected with this shop in any way and receive NO remuneration from them. It's just that since I'm so hard to impress, when I am impressed I feel like speaking out about it. You needn't worry about seeing too many of this type of post from me; I assure you all that it won't happen very often. Absolutely. Positively.
