I am in the process of replacing my leaking original Harrison heater core ('63 coupe) and have had little difficulty in getting everything apart so far. Does the interior heater box assembly, which is a gray fiberglass material, require any type of finish to be applied to the exterior surface? I read one old post that suggests using a satin finish clear coat spray on the fiberglass box. Another post suggests nothing needs to be done to the finish. What would be acceptable in terms of judging? Will applying a finish protect and prolong the life of the box? It seems to have survived well so far with nothing more than what appears to be some solvent type run streaks on the surface of the fiberglass box. Also, how do you test for proper operation of the resistor assembly while it is removed from the heater box? Thanks for any help.

Re: C2 heater box
unless the heater box has suffered some damage, you probably don't need to do anything to it. It has been under the dash out of the sun its entire life. Fiberglass has a very very long life expectancy and it doesn't rust so why coat it. I would wash it out with soap and water and paint any metal brackets that were originally painted.
To test the wire resistor check it with an OHM meter. it should read close to "0" ohms. Clean the contacts and reinstall it.- Top
