C1 1960 Window Crank Spring orientation

The spring that goes between the door and door panel on my 60 is tapered. It's not clear from the AIM, etc. as to whether the large end goes against the door or against the door panel. It appears that if the small end goes against the door panel it will slightly protrude through the window crank hole.

Can anyone advise?

The way I read the AIM, the small end goes toward the door and the large end presses against the metal on teh door panel. The hole in the cardboard should be slightly larger so the metal is pressed against the window crank.

What about the Rubber Seal?

DAMN! I got the spring backwards! Am I correct in that the sponge rubber seal goes between the door and door panel with the cupped out side facing outboard?

Bob, I don't have an AIM to look at right now, but I THINK the seal goes between the door and the spring, cup toward teh door panel. I'll try to remember to look tonight.

If I'm looking at the AIM correctly, the cup (open side) faces against the door. Sure hope so... Since I had to take the panels off to correct the spring orientation. Rick

Rick, Yes that appears to be correct; the "cup" faces outboard.
