Do mid years with side pipes have dust shields? The side pipe cars I look at don't have the dust shields but do have the little connector for the dust shield attachment. I'm assuming all mid years had dust shields with or without side pipes. Is this correct?

Re: Mid Year Side Pipes & Dust Shield
If you are refering to the triangular shaped metal piece attached to the frame and the floor of the car...yes all C2 cars had these...they were slightly different between big and small block. Check out the vendor catalogs or your AIM for the application- Top

Re: Mid Year Side Pipes & Dust Shield
Can you direct me to the AIM section which shows the dust shields. Also, from the AIM it appears side pipes were options for L36, L79 & L88 only. I have a base engine, 300 HP, side pipe car which I know the side pipes were dealer installed. The original owner had the dealer installed because the car was not delivered with them. It never occurred to me that base engine cars did not have the side pipe option.- Top

Re: Mid Year Side Pipes & Dust Shield
Ralph,
I found the drawing/instructions for the shield on page G40 BOLT WELD A6 which is a generic page for all engine sizes.
There is also a second ref to the left side on sheet G396 for an L88. There are some differences between SB and BB in the design as indicated by the various catalog part numbers. I know the big block left side has a cutout section like the L88 picture. I have a L36 engine with factory sidepipes and that is what I've got
There are also various pictures of the undercarrige of various mid years in the Noland Adams Restoration manual 63-67 that show the shields installed on a '64 (pg 200) again on pg 241, pg 259, pg 324, pg 387 and some drawings and notes on pg 427
Hope this helps..............

Re: Mid Year Side Pipes & Dust Shield
Thanks for info about the shields. But I still would like to know if mid years with side pipes had dust shields? None of the cars you referenced in Noland Adams had side pipes. I'm assuming all mid years should have dust shields with or without side pipes. Is this correct?- Top

Re: Mid Year Side Pipes & Dust Shield
Ralph,
All mid years AFTER 63 had splash shields. That includes both under car and side exhaust cars. Steve- Top

Re: Mid Year Side Pipes & Dust Shield
Thanks, as luck would have it, in my AIM, which is a copy and is very old, it has some missing pages, The pages G40 BOLT WELD A6 and G396 are missing. I guess now I will need to replace the DUST SHIELDS. Thanks again.- Top

Re: Mid Year Side Pipes & Dust Shield
If you are serious about getting your car "back in shape" you better spring the $$$$ for a new AIM. You never said what year your C2 is????
Glad I could help, Steve- Top

Re: Mid Year Side Pipes & Dust Shield
It funny, I work on my car in spurts. I was at a show when someone ask where are your dust shields? At that point we examined all the cars at the show and found that the side pipe cars didn't have dust shields. Most of the others did! As a result I became curious if side pipe cars had dust shields. THANKS to your help, I now believe ALL mid years(except '63) had side pipes. Also, my car is a 1967 Convertible.- Top
