    1966 belt question

1966 L79 with no p/s and no a/c. Both the crank and water pump pulley are double groove. The inside groove holds the alt belt. On the outside groove I have a original belt that runs from pulley to pulley. Very short. Looks old and has a gm part number embossed on it. Is this original? The car is a 39k original car that is for the mst part untouched.

    Jon-----

The belt could be original. The application that you described did use a "captured" fan belt which ran between the water pump and crank pullies.

      1966 belt question

      Jon,

When I bought my 1966 L79 (no p/s; no A.I.R.; no AC) three years ago it had the same two belts that you describe. However, I think the 3rd edition of the 1966 Judging Guide says that only 1 belt is correct for an L79 without p/s and/or AC. Whether this is a mistake in the JG is unknown to me. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to have the 2nd belt from a functional perspective, so from that viewpoint the JG sounds reasonable.

Maybe as more NCRS people return from Monterey we'll get a posting with a definitive answer.
