How do you remove the cylinder and key from the case on a mid year glovebox? For example, I know about the paper clip releasing the ignition cylinder from the switch. Is there a similar release on the glove box lock? I am trying to retain the 1963 case with round bezel and have a keyed replacement from paragon with a bezel that looks like a 1964...other than that they look identical...but how in the world do I get the cylinder out? I see two slots on the top of the cylinder...is that the trick?...does something stick in there to release it? Thanks for any help you can give me.
Look down in the slot and you'll see the edge of the tumblers showing - use a thin paper clip or a scratch awl and push down on the tabs as you pull the cylinder free of the lock.
Thanks John...but I'm not getting it. Does it matter which of the two slots is used ...you can turn the key to see two of the tumblers in each of the two slots...it all depends on which way it's turned...so should I be locking the button or keeping it open?
Also, does it matter if the key is in or out?
I'm sure after I've done this once I'll be giving advice to everyone...but right now I'm baffled and I'm feeling a little slow.
I'm going from memory here (pulled mine a couple of months ago to get the key code number), but if you have the key in, there should only be one or two "tabs" to depress and the cylinder will pull right out. Maybe someone who has done it more recently (and is less affected by CRS) will chime in
