I have the gauge cluster out of my '72 and during removal I noticed that the back of the cluster was hand-marked in pencil to identify the corresponding wiring - allowing me to quickly and confidently unplug everything. Upon re-installation, I learned that the temp guage was incorrectly marked (referencing orange and blue where the right choices are pink and green)! The back of the gauge has three male prongs; three wires to it come together in a female connector. It is not at all clear that the connector will fit over the three male tabs in only one way. Consequently there is but a 50 -50 chance of getting it right. Because of the operation of that particular gauge you probably have to let the engine run to get up to operating temperature to see if it registers. I do not want to reassemble the dash (oil pressure line et al)just to try it out. How do I match up the correct color wire to the correct male prong on the guage is my question! Can the wiring diagram be relied upon to match the connections? If so, how is the diagram oriented to the actual gauge? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Re: C3 temp. gauge
Actually the plug ins on each guage are individually different and will fit only one way. That said, if Bubba has messed with them all bets are off. You can always check a temp guage by turning on the key and alternately grounding or opening the wire to the sending unit.- Top

Re: C3 temp. gauge
The 69 service manual shows the three wires identified from top to bottom os the connector as: "20 P"
"14 B"
"20 DG"
If memory serves me correctly, that is the same orientation on the 3 prong connector. I believe I followed this arrangement when servicing my instrument cluster.
