the car in question has been in the posession of a high school friend of mine since 76 and is all original. car was assembled on 11/29/65, block cast 11/15/65 (correct 174 casting) The vin matches the car, the problem is the assembly date read F1201HT How is it possible that the motor was assembled 2 days after the build date?? The vin is number 7776. Does anybody have a birthday book to tell me what day of the week 11/29 was? The car is a 327/350 no pwer anything 4 speed The 1's in the assembly date look like they are I instead of a 1. The stamp pad has beutifulbroach marks and all of the stamps look real clear

Re: 66 L79 stamp pad question
I would like to try my hand at this one. Many people believe (incorrectly) that the date on the trim tab is the date the car was built when in fact that is the date the BODY was assembled and painted. It's actually not very rare for the engine assembly date to be later than the body assembly date by several days or more. If the body was made by A.O.Smith, it was sent by rail to St. Louis and took 8-12 days. The bodies were then left on the dock till needed and taken off the dock in no particular order.
What's important is to look at the VIN and check the little black book to see when that VIN was completed and make sure both the body and engine were built before then. I hope this helps.- Top

Re: 66 L79 stamp pad question
the car does have an AO Smith body. This explains the stamping date of 12/1/65. I am used to the C3 cars that only came from St. Louis. Thanks for the info and the real birthday date.- Top
