While cleaning my air cleaner for the first time since I got the car I noticed something unusual. The clamp that holds the can to the tube or vent pipe that attaches to the radiator frame which allows the air to enter the filter - the black paint was worn off and the filter can was actually chrome underneath the black paint. Has anyone ever seen this before? Did GM originally try to make the air filter can chrome to match the chrome vacuum lines and chrome oil filler tube on the injection unit and then at the last minute scrap the idea and paint all the cans black? This is an origianl air cleaner.
