    69 Radio restoration

The radio in my 69 coupe is the pits. When I purchased the car the oil line to the gage was leaking and the Radio was covered with oil. I have attempted to clean it as best as I can and it didn't help. I adjusted the antenna trim pot but it still has poor reception and only picks up a few radio stations. I have searched through The NCRS Driveline for AM/FM radio restoration services but to no avail. Does anyone know of anyone who does restoration of 68-76 radios?

I use Bill Kromer in Michigan. He charges a fixed fee ($125?) to clean and repair Corvette AM-FM radios. His fee includes parts and return shipping. He advertises in the Corvette Parts section of Hemmings. I always ask him to leave the outside metal as-is. Personally, I don't care for the scrubbed and clear-coated look.

Hello Jerry, do you know if this guy in your country has in stock original, old U-69 radios for a similar car (70 in my case)? Thanks, Roberto, NCRS #30019, RMC

          Roberto -

I believe he has some old Corvette radios for parts, but you should call him to find out for sure. His phone number in Niles, Michigan is (616) 684-5316.

Dick, When I had problems with the radio in my '69, I checked the yellow pages for the local Delco radio service center. For $50 they went though the whole unit and gave me a year warranty to boot! The bezel was in good shape, but I purchased a repro lens and it looks and sounds like new. Don Smith #28087
