    76 Instrument Cluster

I'm a first time restorer and I'm trying to remove the instrument cluster on my 76 Stingray. I've removed all of the facia screws but the bottom of the cluster remains anchored. I would appreciate some insight as to how to free up the cluster for removal. Tnanks!

There are a couple of nuts under there that have to be removed. Just along the lower edge at the front of the shifter console.

There are two studs on the bottom of your bezel that have nuts that secure it to the center console. They are the biggest PIA to get to.

When you get those off, make sure you are careful with the top of the bezel it breaks toooo easily.

The Chevrolet Service Manual says to remove the console front side covers and "...insert a flexible drive socket..." to remove the nuts. It's not that easy, though. After you remove the nuts, and providing that you have relatively small hands, you can replace the nuts with wing nuts like I've done for years. Then, the next time you have to remove them it will be a lot easier.

You guys rock! Thanks for the scoop. Silly me...I thought that fixing the clock would be the hard part...not getting it out of the dash.
