I am looking for a cast iron intake for a base motor 72. I have found an intake with the correct casting number (6263751) but it has an 'R' after the casting number. Anyone know what the 'R' represents, and does this disqualify it as a Corvette intake (like a Tonowanda casting would)?

Re: 72 Intake questions
Ed-----
I believe that the "R" casting symbol denotes a manifold for a Rochester carburetor. However, it may have another significance such as a foundry identification mark. However, the only cast iron manifolds that I have ever seen it on are those designed for use with a Rochester Q-Jet 4 barrel carburetor, so this leads me to believe that it denotes the Rochester Q-Jet application. In any event, the "R" casting mark is widely seen on Corvette cast iron manifolds of the 69-81 period. My 1969 3927184 manifold has it and I'm certain it's original since I'm the original owner. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 72 Intake questions
I have seen a number of 6263751 manifolds that don't have the 'R' after the casting number. I believe these all to be Rochester manifolds, due to the "spread bore" arrangement of the carb mounting base.
I wonder if this might designate a different type of mold (perhaps a new mold, or...?) In any event, the real question is: Does the 'R' preclude this as a manifold for possible Corvette usage?- Top
