C2 early build date

I'm a little confused when I hear about an early build date. For example, my 66 convertible has a build date of approx. Dec. 20, 1965 based on the VIN. Some say all models built before Jan. 1, 1966 are "early" and others say about an Oct. 31, 1965 build date constitute an "early" build date. Some of the affeted parts referenced in Nolan Adam's book have been seat belts, valve cover decals, gas door checkered flag color, etc.
