Hi all, Anyone know of any easy way to identify a 1968 ONLY GM #3924384 Corvette Front Spindle? I removed these from a 1968 frame, that I know are original. I can not find any (casting or forging) number on them. The only number/letters I can find on one is "GM28B" on the boss for the upper caliper support/dust shield bolt and a larger letter "B" cast about 2 inches below the boss, the other spindle has "GM59A" and a larger letter "A". I know about the differences in the bearings and arms. Any noticeable difference to be able to identify a 1968 spindle from 65-67 and 69-82 spindle? TIA Dave

Yes, it's relatively easy to ID the 68-only front spindle (steering knuckle). The 68 spindle uses the "small" spindle shaft size like all 63-67 Corvette spindles. The spindle threads are 3/4-20. 69-82 spindles use 27/32-20 thread size.
In addition, the 68 spindle uses 1/2" bolts to secure the spindle to the steering arm. The 63-67 spindles use 7/16" bolts. So, the holes in the spindle flange for the bolts will be 17/32" on the 68-only spindles.
If you find a spindle with 3/4-20 spindle shaft threads and two 17/32" holes for the steering arm bolts, then you've found a 68-only spindle. No other Corvette spindle will have BOTH of these features. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
