I am curious if anyone has ever used the Fel Pro 1094 coated steel shim head gaskets and if anyone knows if there should be a sealant applied to them when they are installed. I called Fel Pro and the support person said to use Permatex Hi-Tack, however I question that product for head gasket use. Thanks for your help.

Scott----
I've never used this gasket. However, steel shim gaskets which are coated or which are "pre-painted" with aluminum-like paint require no sealer and no sealer should be used.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Fel Pro 1094 head gaskets
Scott,
I'm not familiar with the FelPro gaskets but I just purchased a set of Victor valve cover gaskets that have a steel shim center and a gray ribbed rubber on both sides. It looked like a great solution to the problem. I put them on and they leaked worse than the cork they were replacing. The covers looked and felt straight but I gently beat them again on a piece of hard straight maple to even out any spots and bolted them gently back on. I have asked around and some of the racers tell me they silicone the gasket to the cover and then bolt it down on the engine. That seems like a real good solution.
