DAS BOOT or NO DAS BOOT

At the Galveston Regional an old discussion raised its ugly head once again. The question is: on Standard Transmission Solid Axle cars, was there a dust boot installed where the shift fork enters the Bellhousing?

Common belief was that there was a leather boot installed on the 1958 model year, and that the 1960 version did not have any boot.

What are your thoughts (by model year) on whether or not there was a factory installed dust boot on Solid Axle Corvettes?
