    New Exhaust System in '62

I'm getting ready to put a complete exhaust system from Corvette Central in my '62 327/340 4-Speed. The kit claims no welding and brackets and attachments all bolted in. Anyone out there with advice (don't reply with "Don't Do It). I just completed my fuel and brake lines and feel fairly comfortable with the exhaust portion. Thanks in advance...Don

    Don't do it!!

They're good kits, you shouldn't have a problem. The trick is to lay everything in the frame, leave everything loose, then tighten starting at the manifolds, and watch your clearance on frame openings & other parts.

      Rich,
Thanks for the info. I forgot to mention that I haven't put the engine, tranny, or any other parts in yet (so far just the brake and fuel lines and gas tank). Everything else is out of the car, so your advice sound pretty good to me. Thanks again...Don

Don, I put a complete CC exhaust system in my 56 and it went very well. The only difficult aspect was getting rattle free clearance through the frame passages - and that just took time and patience. The advice about installing the system loosely and tightening from the front and going to the back is good. I did have to shorten one tailpipe by an inch to get the proper fit at ther rear of the car. Good luck, Steve

          Don -

Be glad you don't have tailpipes that come out through the bumper chrome! Much easier on a '62 with the side outlets. Just take your time and be patient, and focus on finessing the hangers so the pipes are nicely centered in the two oval holes in the frame "X" member on each side so you don't have rattles there.

Easy to install. Difficult to adjust for rattle free operation.

Just did mine this Spring with the car on jackstands. Not hard at all. But the adjustments are finicky, and were hard to do with the car on jackstands. I was reluctant to tighten a clamp sufficiently to crimp a pipe. So, I just put the pipes on close and the clamps only half tight. Brought the car to an exhaust shop who spent 2 hours adjusting.

You're going to have to wait until the engine is in to do your final adjustments.
