After speaking with the shop that rebuilt my 63 trans ( Larry Fisher) he is convinced that I unfortunately had a repro pilot bushing installed that was not brass. He said he has had many problems that were attributed to to the trans only to find this problem. I understand that there is a needle bearing bushing available from GM. Is this true, advisable, and if so does anyone know the part number or should I just find a good brass replacment. Thanks

Re: 63 pilot bushing

The needle bearing pilot bushing is GM #14061685. It will work very well providing that your block, bellhousing, and transmission are in acceptable alignment. This bearing is less tolerant of any mis-alignment than the oilite bronze type bushings. If yo do go with a standard bushing, make sure that it's an oilite bronze type bushing as were all original GM bushings. I don't know, for sure, if the current GM replacement bushing, GM #10125896, is an oilite bronze bushing, or not.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
