    62 rear end

I putting a new posi unit in my 62 and wanted to know what the best type of fluid is to use in it. One place I read said to use Tranny fluid but this doesnt seem thick enough. Amy recomendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Todd.

    Re: 62 rear end

I have a lot of miles on three of my cars just using the GM rear end lubricant and the posi additive. Have rolled up over 160 on one car since 1970.

Never mind I see it hear in the servicing guide as hyphoid gear lube part 3758791. I am sure I can find an equivalent to that. If there is a particular brand to stick with let em know.

That part number is "ancient history". The current GM part number for the lubricant is GM #1052271. That's the one that I recommend. The posi additive is GM #1052358.

The numbers Joe gave are definitely the ones to use. GM calls it Multi-Purpose Rear Axle Lubricant and it is good for posi or open gears. Don't bother trying to find an aftermarket equilivalent. Just go to your Chevy or other GM dealer and get the real stuff. You can't go wrong.
