    C3 "68 Exhaust pipe diameter

What was the original diameter of the exhaust pipe from the manifold to the muffler on a '68 327/350SHP 4 speed? I'm thinking 2 or 2 1/2 inch. Mine was replaced with a 1 3/4 inch pipe. Seems to starve for breathing room. Thanks for your input...

    Glen----

ALL 1968 Corvettes utilized 2-1/2" exhaust systems. However, for small blocks, the forward exhaust pipes were reduced to 2" near the connection to the manifold. That's because ALL 1966+ small block exhaust manifolds were 2" outlet.

On all 63-72 Corvettes, regardless of whether equipped with a 2" or 2-1/2" system, the outlet pipe of the muffler was 2".

I've never seen a 1-3/4" system installed on a Corvette, even a retrofit.

It began at the cast iron manifold outlet as a 2 inch pipe that within a few inches enlarged to 2 1/2 inches all the way to the muffler. I have a original owner 68 that came this way from the factory.
