The seat belt retractor under the passenger's seat in my 77 doesn't retract anymore (it has something to do with the 25 years of rust buildup on it). I checked all the usual sources - but those retractors are not available. Are there any sources for those items? Is it safe to use a junkyard piece? Does GM still have them available? Can I remove the stiching on the belt and have it resewn onto a new retractor - or is the retractor and belt a single unit? Thanks in advance for any help. Steve

Steve, Ssnake-Oyl products rebuilds and restores seat belts and retractors. They say they can rebuild retractors (when possible). Website www.ssnake-oyl.com
I have not dealt with them, but a member of our club does restorations and he has had good luck with them in the past.
