    Quick Identification Question

    Hi all -

Quick question on build date for car and correct engine code on a 1973 coupe:

The build date for my car is C19 - this would be October 19, 1972 of the 73 model year correct?

What would be acceptable block dates for a car with this build date? This is a L48 small block car. I found an engine with a casting of L112 but think this is too late for my build.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, "C19" does denote October 19, 1972 for your 1973. An "L112" dated-coded engine is too late inasmuch as that code denotes December 11, 1972 which is almost 2 months AFTER your car was built.

      Joe -

So what should I be looking for... an H, I or J code? I remember something about the I being skipped????

Thanks for the quick reply. That saved me a bunch of money....

        Pat -

Anything after late April ("D") would fit in the 6-month "window" allowed by the judging standard, although an October date would be more "realistic".
