'70 w/ AC Heater Core Replacement

Well folks, the time has come... it all started this AM with the tell tale smell of antifreeze in the car when the heater is running. Turn the heater off, no smell. No drips or leaks under the car which I can find. So far no carpet drips or windshield haze when the defroster is on, but I figure it's only a matter of time till she blows! So I've ordered the parts and I think that I am going to tackle this project myself. Till I get all the parts assembled and muster up the courage to dive in I'll just route the intake to the pump and bypass the heater core.

Anyone with any tips, suggestions, hints, photos, or wants to make some sacrifices to the Corvette Gods.... I sure could use them! Thanks, Juliet

Re: '70 w/ AC Heater Core Replacement

Juliet, did my 70 original owner a few years ago. My thinking was that if I changed my anti-freeze every two years my heater core would last a long long time, I guess 27 years isn't to bad. Anyway mine is configured just like yours and it does come out from the inside. You are not going to believe this when you look at your new heater core and length of the pipes. There is a brace that holds the two pipes against the firewall where they kind of disappear behind the air conditioning assembly. Let me get back with more info later, have to go to work.

        Thanks... It'll be...

.. about a month before I get started on the project. I have some daily driver issues to iron out first, so no big rush. I am interested in hearing about your experiences though. Thanks. ~Juliet
