The 66 T.I.M. mentions that for a big block, no a.c., the positive (black) cable is 6286188 and the negative (brown) is 2981079. At Carlisle three seperate vendors mentioned that the T.I.M. is incorrect and the correct numbers are positive 6286182 (vs. 6286188) and the negative is 2979821 (vs. 2981079). Is this an error in the judging manual as I'm assuming all of the vendors are using GM part numbers?

Re: C2 battery cables part numbers
Barry-----
Well, here's my perspective for 1966 Corvette battery cables w/o A/C:
PRODUCTION negative (-) cable----GM #2981079 (this cable was NEVER available in SERVICE and MAY not actually have been used in PRODUCTION;
Original SERVICE negative(-) battery cable-----GM #2979821. This was a cable of 25" center-to-center length. It MAY have been used in PRODUCTION if the 2981079 was not actually used;
PRODUCTION and original SERVICE positive (+) battery cable-----GM #6286180. This is a cable of 26" center-to-center length.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C2 battery cables part numbers
Barry - Check out the 1966 Corvette Assembly Instruction Manual(AIM), UPC L72, Sheet D6, Battery Cables. The Production Part Number called out in the AIM for the positive cable is 6286182 and for the ground cable is 2979821. So the AIM appears to be a source of the vendor's info. Now hopefully, someone with a '66 BIG BLOCK w/o AC will step in and confirm which cable numbers, the AIM's or the TIM&JG, came on the cars originally. Please note that the ground cable, 2979821, was also listed for use on cars w/ AC (see UPC C60, sheet E3) and this application has been confirmed on "original" '66 and '67 C60 Corvettes so the ground cable 2979821 was definitely used in Production. Re: C2 battery cables part numbers
Peter and Barry----
Yes, somehow I missed the "big block" in your description of your car. GM #6286182 was the PRODUCTION and original SERVICE part number for the positive battery cable for 1966 Corvettes with 427. This cable is also a 26" center-to-center length cable and I don't know how it differs from the small block cable I mentioned earlier which is also 26" length.
Also, for big block applications the GM #2979821 is the PRODUCTION and original SERVICE negative battery cable. Only for small block applications does the 2981079 come into play as POSSIBLY being used in PRODUCTION (but, I really doubt that it was).In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
