    '56 Choke Tube

I noticed that on my exhaust manifold, the hole that the choke warmer tube fits in goes all the way thru to the exhaust chamber. Is this correct?

the tube in the manifold should pass all the way thru the manifold so you do not suck in exhaust vapors into the choke housing.if the tube is burned thru you will find black carbon in the choke housing.

      Steve -

The tube goes all the way through the exhaust manifold (the internal tube is a separate piece) and the choke draws in outside air through the bottom end of the tube that sticks out of the lower part of the manifold; there's a metered manifold vacuum orifice in the carb into the choke housing. Later C1's had another tube and hoses that moved the intake point to the carburetor air horn so only clean air was drawn into the choke housing. If the inner tube inside the manifold is perforated, Paragon has a replacement. The early cars like yours that draw unfiltered air tend to crud-up the inside of the choke housing and the piston inside it more frequently than the later cars.
