correct color vinyl die for 69

I need to purchase some vinyl dye (rattle can) to restore some of the saddle vinyl interior trim in my 69 coupe. I have tried some dye that I purchased from Vette Products of Michigan here locally but was unsatisfied with the color match, (too pink). I know that Vette Prod. of MI doesn't make their own die so I can't blame them but, I'm looking for some opinions from the team here on what brand has the best color match. I realize that most of the interior components probably never matched very well originally in 1969, given the standards of the day, but I'd prefer to get close enough and not respray the entire interior to get everything to match a new hue. Any helpful advise out there?

I've used Eckler's Vinyl Dye Spray Paint on my '63 coupe interior parts such as the radio block off panels, pinch welting and steering column, to mention a few and I've got to tell you that I was very satisfied with the quality of that paint and I applied 2 to 3 good coats to everything I painted. The only thing is, since some "brain surgeon" painted the entire interior of my car black directly over the original saddle tan many years ago, I didn't have the need to match anything original in color,...I simply started fresh. Could be the reason why Eckler's paint matched Al Knock's interior package so well.

If I were you, I'd call Eckler's and describe your needs and see if they can help. Other than that, I've heard of people actually removing original adjoining interior painted parts and bringing them to an automotive paint store for them to whip-up a batch of paint to match exactly.

    Good Luck!

Although I've never done it myself, my local supplier can computer match vinyl spray dye just like they can match paint. You'll need to bring them a piece so they can "color scan" it. Won't come in a rattle can. You'll have to use a spray gun. Hope this helps. Chuck
