    67' corvette jack compartment.

67' corvette bolt on wheels utilize a red wooden handle
screw-driver,located in the jack compartment.I read in your 67' tech.
and judging manual that Irwin Tool Co. may be a source for this. I am
having no luck. Do you have an address or web site where I can purchase
    this item?

One other question,my 67' was built Nov.1 1966. My jack
board has all the correct decals on the back.All-though My jacking instructions seem
to be suspect. It has jacking instructions that are dated 1964,is it possible that this is correc

t? Or should it definitely have the 67' instructions

    August------

Irwin Tool is still in business (www.irwintool.com). However, I really doubt that they still make a screwdriver with a wooden handle and configured like the originals. For an "obscure" item like this, I think that I'd check with Long Island Corvette Supply. If they don't have it, I don't think that anyone will.

Your jacking label could very well be correct with the 1964 date. These labels were not changed every model year. So, a label first printed and used for 1964 might have been used all the way through 1967, or even beyond that. The date on the label would not change unless the label was changed.

I need an N89 screwdriver too, and make it a point to scrounge through hardware stores looking for an "el cheapo" wood-handle screwdriver; I pitched my old wood-handle ones decades ago, haven't found one yet, but I'll keep "scrounging".

The best tool, by the way, for removing the N89 center caps is a "seal puller", with the two "hawk's beak" ends on it - put a rag behind it between the fins on the wheel so it won't scratch, and the seal puller will pop the center cap off with no drama. Put a little Lubriplate on the spring clips when you re-install them, and you won't break the spring clips the next time you remove the caps.

If you have repro bolt-ons, the shouldered lug nuts are 7/8" hex, not the 3/4" that's on the original N89's and that's on the lug wrench that goes with the jack (you don't want to find this out at 3:00 AM on Sunday in Bingo Flats, Nebraska). Here's an adapter I made from a 7/8" 6-point socket with a standard 3/4" lug nut welded to it that eliminates having to carry a separate 7/8" wrench to fit the repro lug nuts.

August - this topic of the 64 date came up in a 66 interior class I took in Bloomington this year, I believe the 64 date is correct and reflects when the instrucrtions where finalized, not the year date of the car...Craig

Similar confusion exists on taillight lenses - I frequently see people at shows answering the "what year is that car" question from their fellow spectators by looking at the date molded into the taillight lens; that date is the date the lens design was certified as having met the SAE lighting specifications, not the model year of the car on which it's installed.
