I just opened the package of exhaust manifold studs from Chicago Corvette for my 65 FI side exhaust. On the passenger side where the longer studs go I have two long studs and a third stud that is 1/4 inch longer. The two long studs have a bulge that acts as a stop. The third longest stud does not have the bulge. Is this correct and if so which position does this longest of the long go? I don't see a physical reason for the different length stud. I've checked the assembly manuals and an early 70s vintage Chevrolet parts manual and see no differentiation of the long studs. Is this an error from chicago corvette or ??? Jerry

Based upon your description, it sounds to me like one of your exhaust manifold flange "studs" is actually a piece of all-thread rod that was cut a bit longer than the studs. As far as I know, such a piece was not originally used on a 65 FI or, for that matter, any other Corvette.
This piece will certainly be functional, but, as far as I know, it's not what was originally used.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
