Are the stainless steel restrictors mandatory to fit on intake gasket?
I've got a '77 Calif L48 with EGR/A.I.R,etc that calls for one rstrictor on LHS.
Also,I did not see or get a gasket for the choke tube flange adjacent to EGR valve. Is this a metal fit or should there be a gasket in place?
Thx
Jim
I don't think that the restrictor plate(s) on the intake manifold gasket heat crossover passage are absolutely critical. These plates, when used, are a "phenomenon" related to the emissions control system used on a particular application. However, the performance and/or durability of that system may or may not be affected by the presence or absence of the restrictors. If it were me, I would use the correct intake manifold set for the application. The current GM gasket set for the application MAY be GM #10174954. This is the current gasket set for the 1976 Corvette with California emissions; GM catalogues no gasket set for the 1977 model, which MAY indicate that gasket set was unique and discontinued. I can't tell at the moment, but I should be able to later.
The choke tube did originally use a gasket. It was GM #343663, but it's discontinued. At the moment, I can't tell you if a supercessive part is available, or not.
