Need to refinish 9 rally wheels. Quanta no longer makes the argent silver-green paint correct for 68-70 rally wheels. Called Paragon. They're out of stock, but the young lady told me they get $40.00 per rattle can. My catalog said $25.00. Guess the price went up. For $80.00 to $120.00 for 2 or 3 spray bombs, I think I can mix my own paint. Several questions: Is anyone aware of a close match in a "stock" paint....rattle can or pint/quart can? Has anyone had any mixed up? I have some left over from a Quanta spray can, but my local paint supplier can "scan" the color only for Chromacolor BC/CC paint, which I do not want. Would be happy with lacquer, enamel, or one stage urethane. Any suggestions? Thanks. Chuck

Re: Argent Silver-Green Rally Wheel Paint
Try Long Island as well as this is should be the same as used in '67. If you don't want to buy pre-mixed shake 'n spray, the formula to have it mixed locally is cited in the book "How To Restore & Modify Your Corvette, 1968-82" which is listed in the NCRS Library from Cincinnatti. This has been quoted SEVERAL times on the discussion board and you should be able to find it by searching the various archieves....- Top

Re: Argent Silver-Green Rally Wheel Paint
If you want to match the factory have some argent silver acrylic enamel mixed and get some high solids green tint and tint your paint a drop at a time until you match your original (spare) wheel . The acrylic will match the gloss & color and you wont have the dry rough look that comes out of a spray can. and its very easy to match the factory metalic runs . Bill- Top

Argent Silver-Green... Gloss
Went through the same thing a little over a year ago on my 67. Couldn't find cans from the usual houses. Ended up having some enamel mixed and sprayed on. Looked great. However be sure and check how much gloss you end up with as I've been hit more than once for having "way too much gloss"

Re: Argent Silver-Green... Gloss
Chuck, I asked the same question several months ago and was told about OEM paints WWW.oempaints.com , 760 747 2100. They sell Argent silver and Argent silver green in spray cans for about $15. I bought some silver green and thought it was a good match. I would not try to have it mixed as you might find (like I did) that there is always one judge who doesnt "like" the color, ie, "too silver" or "too green". Good luck, Tom- Top

Re: Argent Silver-Green... Gloss
Tom and Chuck-----
I have not used this, particular, OEM Paints product, but I have used several others and have found them to be EXCELLENT. They're more expensive than "hardware store" varieties but they are well worth it.
Also, I don't think that Long Island will be a source for the argent silver-green wheel paint. Long Island only carries parts/supplies for 63-67 Corvettes (unless parts for those years were also used for earlier/later years). The 1967 Corvette Rally wheels did not use the argent silver-green. They used just plain argent silver.
I might also add here that argent silver (or the silver in argent silver-green)varied VERY widely over the years of its use. For instance, the argent silver-green paint originally used on the wheels on my 69 (as evidenced by the unfaded, still green-hued paint under the hub caps) was a MUCH darker shade of "silver" than most of the reproduction paints that I've seen. It was almost a medium to dark gray color. A recent article in one of the Corvette magazines discussed this issue regarding the variability of original argent-silver wheel paints and I wholeheartedly agree with them. It was nice to see my observations confirmed, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Argent Silver-Green... Gloss
Ordered 6 cans from OEM Paints in California. Thanks for the tip. Cost is $25.00/can, probably still cheaper than trying to match a paint chip. Anyhow. Ordered it today. Thanks again. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight
