I bought the aluminum panel for the glove box door of my '66 and have drilled out the rivets. How do you put it back together?

Re: Glove Box Door Repair
Chip - I have one of these, but have stored it and haven't installed it yet. It did come with detailed instructions on how to correctly drill out the rivets, and replace with the included screws, then drill out th allen heads to look like th original rivets. There is also an article on the restorer CDROM by Mark Ogren called 1964-1967 glove box door installation. I found this by searching for glove box door. Unfortunately, I am new to using this CDROM and can't seem to find out how to tell what year and volume it comes from...it includes pictures as well. Can anyone explain on the CDROM when you are at an article, how you can tell what issue it came from? Thx, Craig- Top

Re: Glove Box Door Repair
I bought one of these kits and it came with zero instructions.
Basically now that you have the rivets drilled out, pick a drill bit that's correct for those screws and drill holes in the center of the rivets. I can't remember if they're self-tapping or not. If not, then use a tap to make some threads for the screws.- Top

Tougher than it looks
Unfortunately, the little screws aren't much smaller in diameter than the old rivet shafts. Unless you center drill the rivets dead-nuts, you don't have enough metal left to tap. You can usually get the tap to bite nicely on most holes though. The other screw heads can be epoxied in place.- Top
