    C2-Headlight door switch

The headlight door switch on my 67 was working, but was very loose. It felt like it was about to fall out of the assembly. I purchased a used one at Carlisle. I installed the new one yesterday, and now only the right headlight works. I reinstalled the old one,and still only the right headlight works. Any ideas as to what I may have pulled loose? Could one of the three wires that go into the plug on the back of the switch pulled loose? If so, how would I go about checking it? Thanks in advance.

    Rob,

If one of the doors works it may not be the switch. There are 3 contacts on the connector to the switch. One is hot and the other two are for open or close. The easy way to check is to jump the hot lead to each of the other two one at a time. One should open the doors and the other should close them. If they both open when doing this then the problem is the switch. If only one still opens or closes then I would look elsewhere between the switch and the motor.

The switch is quite easy to disassemble if that seems to be the culprit. Using a paper clip or a small punch push in through the holes on the side and carefully slide out the clips that hold the connector on. Inside you will find a small set of double point like contacters and a rocker made out of a bakelite type material. The points could probably use a cleaning. What I have found is that the corners of the rocker tend to wear over time and won't move the contacters together solidly enough.
