My 327/340 recently beomes sluggish going uphill, almost feels like running out of gas (guessing), once on level roads it seems to get back to normal.
On the uphill there is hardly any power have to baby and feather the throttle, sometimes the tach goes up to 2500/3000 rpm but the engine does not sound it is at those prm levels? Any comments, thank you in advance and have a grand day.
How about a slipping clutch. Find a level stretch of road and bring the car to about 3000 RPM in top gear, then floor the throttle. If the engine revs via the tach reading, but the car doesn't accelerate, your clutch is slipping. If the clutch adjustment is reasonably correct and it has some freeplay, then the clutch needs to be replaced.
If the clutch test Duke suggested doesn't indicate a bad clutch I would start with the fuel filter and work my way back to the tank. If the fuel filter passes a volume test then you know it isn't from there on back. Next would be to check the volume output of the fuel pump, etc., etc.. Any obstruction in the fuel delivery system could cause this problem. It should also show up any other time there is a high demand for fuel like running to red line through the gears. If it doesn't I doubt that it is a fuel starvation problem. A bad coil will also act up while going up a hill but that will usually result in a bucking notion. Just a few ideas from past experiences.
