    Decklid Adjustment on MidYear Rdstr

Rear deck lid is raised by 3/16 - 1/4 inch above body (not flush). My paint and body guy claimed that the new weather striping would eventually give a
bit (seven years ago) and allow a flush appearance...NOT! Anyhow, any of you body experts know if the deck lid spring towers are shimmed at the bottom as a means of reducing/setting deck lid height? Mind you I am not talking about laterial adjustment but rather height of the rear of the deck lid in relation to the body.

    Thank you,
    Jim Visco

Just add a shim under the front bolt. It will bring er down.

      Your help is greatly appreciated.
Another one of those "why didn't I think of that" solutions. Worked great! Middle of decklid is still a bit higher than the ends however. Much better than it was though.
      Thanks Wayne,

The factory sometimes added shims in that area as needed.

Most decklids did not fit perfect. If adjusted with shims, the sides could be flush with the body but the back of the lid was typically raised. This normally could not be adjusted by shimming but instead required cutting and reshaping the lid. (Big Job!)

            Jim,

I heard the same thing re: new weatherstripping, not only on the deck lid, but doors and hood as well. Perhaps you could check into another brand (after-market like 'Sof-Seal' versus GM, if that's what you have). I know the GM weatherstrip that I installed on my '65 fourteen years ago is still not allowing the deck lid to sit perfectly flush, but it's a lot better than when first installed. Good luck!
