Blocking Intake Manifold Heat Crossover C1

I'd like to block off the intake manifold heat crossover on a 1956
225HP.I got the correct (looking) intake gaskets for '56 and the
block off plates listed for '57.
The block off plates came in a package of four.
Questions, Do I need all four plates or would one plate on each side
of intake be enough? If One plate on each side is sufficient would it
be best placed on intake or head side of gasket?
There was a post about drilling a small hole in the R/H plate allowing
the choke to heat and open sooner. Is this recommended by most and
if so what size hole ?
As long as the sun is out this car will see some 40-50 degree days.
    Thanks In Advance, Rob.

2 are all you need if they are stainless steel(check with a magnet as stainless is non magnetic) so they will not burn thru. if your choke gets heat from a tube running to the exhaust manifold i do not think you need a hole in the plate. either side of the gasket will work.

Thanks Clem for the quick response I figured if .005 stainlees shim
stock would work one plate would be enough. The package of four threw
me I'm not used to getting any more than necessary when buying for
this heap. PS It was good to meet you in Carlisle. Rob

          Re: I gotta ask...Why?

This car wants to buck and fart after about 1hr driving time.
Pull over and it'll idle fine take off again ok for about
2 miles then act up again.Replaced points, cond, and coil
The time that it finaly quit I pulled the air cleaners there
were no vapors, and no gas from the acc. pumps.Thought I was
out of gas. Had to leave it about 15 min returned with gas
it fired up instantly without priming the carb.
Rebuilt the rear carb got the acc. pump working, double gasketed
the carbs all seems fine there but the other day after some heat
soak and some traffic it acted up, didn't quit though. When I
opened the hood the fuel filter bowl was doing the slow burps.
Fuel pump pressure is 4.5 lbs so I thought I'd try blocking crossover.
From what I've been reading here on the board the problem may
lie in the distributor the saft does wobble a bit and I can't seem
to set total dwell. I can get both individual points set but my
total dwell is low. Any Thoughts? Rob

            Me too...

My distributor shaft, at age 30, decided to warp, giving a different dwell for each cylinder. I suggest you replace the shaft or bushings or both- It sure did the trick for me. My '55 still has the original carb and intake, and has always run well. BOSS and CobraJet Mustangs used thin (about 1/4") plastic spacers to protect the carb from engine heat, and these are still available.

              Re: Me too...

Thanks for the advice Dave. I know this distributor needs a rebuild
but can't seem to find many parts listed for a '56 . The shafts and
bushings I do find caution that the bushings could be over or
undersized and may damage housing.I prefer doing things myself
but this is something I believe I'd be better off sending out.
The proper tools make a difference. It would be nice knowing
that the distributor was set up and checked on a machine before
it was put back . Any recommendations as to an honest, reiable shop
              with decent turn around time?
Is there perhaps a gentleman from Tenn. that offers this service?
If you feel uncomfortable with recommendations good or bad over the
              Board Please E-mail. Thanks Rob
