I am in the process of restoring my frame. Prior to dipping/chemically stripping, I could not make out the frame number as it had been painted over.....
After stripping, the number appeared as a slightly different "etch" in the metal and could be made out using a "shadow" light.
Problem: The number is a stencil that was correctly applied upside down, but the numbers are reversed as follows:
303196-33-PC
3900200-4-7/GC
The restoration guides I've found indicate that the frame number should be as follows:
3900200-3(x) [x=1-4] {no "PC"}
303196-(m)-(d)/GC [m=month] [d=day]
The VIN serial number 15770 indicates an April assy
The tank sticker indicates an April 14 expected production date.
Should I replace the number as I found it and face potential judging issues or should I replace the number as restoration guidelines indicate? I tried to photograph the number but it is extremely difficult to get a good legible photo. This is the first time the body has been off the frame....
Thanks for any input
Steve
