Everybody offer leaf spring strapping kits, but how does one crimp them in place?

Re: Basic C1 spring question...
An industrial hand-held straping crimper is used. C Central rents one out. The C Central banding kit is the best one to use due to the tooling marks on the bands.
Paint all leafs in DP-90 self etching primer with 8 ounces of lacuqer thinner added to the catalized mix. Paint the longest leaf silver and the other three medium gloss black. Put a daub of yellow inspection paint on the rearmost eyelet. Don't paint the liners. Assemble the spring unit and spray Quanta's asphaltic mastic black-out paint liberally on both sides and the top so as to cover the yellow and silver paints as well as the other leafs. Some asphaltic mastic can be applied to the undersides of the springs but not much. If silver shows from the bottom, that's fine. The result should be a high gloss soft paint appearance. That's how the C1 Corvettes were made.
There is a a state-of-the-art booklet available that treats C1 chassis detailing and contains facts not available in the Judging Guide.

Re: Basic C1 spring question...
Dale
I'm restoring a 62. Up to now every thing was pretty much original when I began taking it apart. The question I have is the rear springs are stamped with part number 3751438 59 2E are they original to my March 62 car? What's confusing is these springs have 5 leafs and everything that I've read on the subject they should only contain 4. I would appreciate any thoughts on the subject. Thanks Ron Cwiklinski.- Top

Where do I get the..
Book on C1's?
I am considering purchasing a particular 61, and the owner claims this vehicle is original. At Carlisle, I heard about this book, but I was too busy looking for parts to find it.
I think it would greatly help in the purchase of this car.

Re: Basic C1 spring question...
The spring dating is 59 2E which meand fifty-ninth day of 1962 made at Eaton Corporation. The 1438 part number is correct.
Look carefully at the leafs in your spring set and I'm sure you'll find one leaf in each bundle without a center groove. This will be an additional "helper" leaf added by some spring shop and is NOT original.
Five leaf springs were available as part of the 1957 through early 1959 RPO 684 heavy duty brake and suspension package but were never availablre as part of 1962 production. A racing five leaf set WAS available at Chevy dealers over the counter but was configured differently from the production five leaf and the standard four leaf spring sets.

Re: Basic C1 spring question...
Thanks Dale.
Upon further review they did sneek a spring between the main and the number two. You couldn't see any grooves on it for most of it was covered by the number two spring. The end of this spring was blunt unlike the stock spring tips. Would you have any suggestions on whom I may go to have them re-arched?
Thank you
