Re: John; does a 2 groove pulley > 2 belts?

    Gary -

I have no idea - just answering the previous question, "what does the JG say?"; seems like a Bowtie L-79 could really be helpful here.

      John, Gary and Joe

Would you please consider the details of my 66 L79 w/PS outlined in my post of Tuesday September 10th and offer your opinion?

      Thank you.

Henry, sorry, but I've said all I know, and more!

        Henry,

Sorry I can't be of more help. I know what came on my L79 w/o P/S, w/o A/C, when I bought the car 4 years ago (2 belts) and I know what the AIM and 66 JG say. It doesn't all match up and I think some other people agree with me. That's all I can say.

          Henry, et al------

I'll add this: at the time that GM installed the multiple groove pullies on 66+ Corvettes, they had single groove pullies in their "parts bin" that would have fit and worked perfectly. So, if the design had called for a single belt system, then I would think that, for at least 2 reasons, they would have used single groove pullies. First, the single groove pullies would be less expensive. Second, the single groove pullies would have avoided the "unused groove syndrome" that might have caused disconcert to potential buyers and new owners that looked under the hood and saw pulley grooves with no belt.

If you think that GM didn't care what folks saw under the hood, then why use chrome air cleaner lids and aluminum valve covers?
