    Big Block Heat Riser Orientation

The heat riser on my 1966 427/425 is broken and leaking. The judging manual states that the counterweight should face forward. The assembly manual displays it facing rearward with the counterweight on the engine side. Mine was facing rearward with the counterweight on the fender side however I have not removed it as yet and it may be installed upside down.

I purchased a new one from LICS. If I face it forward the counter weight would be outboard of the engine on the fender side and the counterwight would move down when the buttterfly opens. Would someone please help with the correct installation and orientation/procedure. I'm confused as usual.

    thanks

Big block heat riser valves have the counterweight oriented on the forward side, with the counterweight "facing" the engine. Small blocks have the counterweight oriented toward the rear of the engine and that may be what you saw in the AIM.

As always thanks for the response.

I was referencing UPC L72 Sheet C1. It shows the counterweight on the engine side facing rearward.

That particular drawing is pretty "sketchy". In any event, it's incorrect.

Thanks again for the response. If you have a minute would you please take a look at my other recent post regarding a 1966 L-79 Engine - How many fan belts. I also believe there should be two belts. One for the alternator and water pump and another that serves as a redundant belt for the water pump. I beleieve the redundant belt goes on the inside pulley. Please check it out.
          thanks

As was discussed in previous posts, I just wired my heat riser open.

I hear you loud and clear. However besides being broke mine is also leaking.
