Re: C3 LS5 tach issues

Having checked out the tach drive gears and cable end that does not leave a lot in the system that could cause the problem. It has to be either the cable or the tachometer instrument, itself. Likely it's the latter, at this point.
To service the tach or cable you must first remove the left side instrument panel. Once this is out, you can remove the cable inner shaft from the casing. Inspect it for condition and replace if necessary. Otherwise, just clean, regrease, and re-install it. If the cable is ok, then you will need to send out the tachometer unit for professional repair and rebuild.
By the way, I received your e-mail on this subject and replied. However, the message sent on your @bright.net address was "kicked back". This is the second time that's happened. I receive a fairly large amount of questions by e-mail. If I have to "jump through hoops" to get a response back to folks because of problems with their e-mail system, I just drop it. That's why you didn't get a response on that one.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Thanks Joe for the information and taking the time to reply .. I leave in a small town in ohio and there are no Corvette clubs that I know of here .. so this tech board is the only way I have of "talking" to other corvette owners .. Also thanks for the information about the e-mail address ..- Top
