    #4 body mount, 63 convertible

Both rear body mount bolts are essentially welded with rust (all of the other body mount bolts came loose easily). After soaking with penetrating oil for about 10 days, I broke the head off of one (socket with a cheater, not smart) and broke the caged nut loose on the other (impact wrench), so now that bolt just spins. Which brings me to the question at hand: how do you replace the caged nut assembly? Is it riveted in place? It's tucked away in a little hole behind the deck lid hinge post and is very difficult to get to. I didn't find any information in the manual. I don't have the body lifted yet, but I'm hoping that this operation will be easier with the body off?

Steve, In the 67 it's riveted on (probably the same as 63), two little rivets and it probably won't be hard to fix with the body off. I think Paragon and LIC have all that's needed.

I have a hand operated pop-riveter (like a large pair of pliers) Is that sufficient for the task ?

A pop rivet isn't what was origianlly used, but if you want to get the job done with the tools at hand you can buy large head soft aluminum "pop" rivets that will work just fine. Otherwise you can buy OEM type rivets from Dr. Rebuild or Paragon. I find LIC's rivets too hard.

          Steve:

The caged nut is fastened with 2 flathead rivets (as Scott said, use the ones from Dr.Rebuild), but is located between the #4 body reinforcement bracket and the floorpan.

Once you have lifted the body, you will have to drill out and remove the 6 rivets holding the reinforcing bracket to the floorpan, remove the bracket, and access the caged nut.
