      Re: C1 Engine ID

Engine code indicates one of the following:

      GF 55-56 265ci 162hp 2bbl, 3 speed, A/C in a passenger car or truck
GF 57 283ci 250hp FI, TurboGlide in a passenger car
      GF 65-67 283ci 195hp 2bbl, PowerGlide in a passenger car

My bet would be the last one. Check the date code of the block and
see if it falls within the 1965-1967 range

I'm really impressed. Three replies within three hours and each one very helpful. Many thanks to all. Ed, I think your suspicions are probably correct, as the previous owner told me he thought the engine was a '65. Nick, if it's not too much trouble I'll take you up on your offer (assuming Sam Giagliano is still in the area). He sold the car in June 1985 to Paul Milton, who in turn sold it to me last month. Sam's address at the time was 43 Candlestick Rd., No. Andover 01845. Thanks again.
