    1967 Tire Size

Which tire most closely resembles the overall size of the factory original 7.75 x 15's, a P205/70R15 or P215/70R15?? Thanks...Mike

    Mike:

Check the tire size archives. Lot of chatter in there recently, same subject. 215/70's overwhelm the profile of the car in my opinion. Besides that, the '70 series are too wide to stay under the fenders and will drag unless you raise the front of the car. Al least in my case.

The tire to choose is 215/70x15 (775rev). However, some have used 205/75x15 (778rev). You can find many post on this.

The answer as stated in the previous post is 215/70R-15. Both this modern radial size and the OEM 7.75-15s are speced at 775 revs per mile, so your speedometer calibration will not change.

Six inch wheels are adequate for a 217/70 and they will clear the fenders except for front jounce when the wheels are turned to near full lock. Just be careful entering steep driveways.

The best currently available 215/70R-15s are the W-rated Pirelli P4000 Supertouring and the V-rated Michelin Energy MXV4. Both are available from Mail order soures and local dealers.

A 205/75R-15 is an alternative (766 revs per mile) size, but they are are all low performance all-season tires with low or even no speed rating, and I don't consider them adequate for a Corvette given the alternative of higher speed rated all season performance and touring tires.

Duke - Will they also fit into the spare tire tub? I have a 66 and been trying to figure out what to replace the reproduction 7.75X15 with in a modern radial for street driving also.

No, a 215/70R-15 will probably not fit in the spare tire tube. A 205/75R-15 might depending on the specific tire.

Just use one of your 7.75-15s as a spare. Anything that will fit in the spare tire tub will get you home.

In 39 years of driving, I've never had to change a tire on the road. I've had my share of punctures, but they always resulted in a slow leaks, so I was able to get somewhere to get the tire repaired without much inconvenience.
