I'm confused about gloss levels of black paint used on the frame and various components on my 64 Corvette roadster. The Judging Manual calls for different gloss levels. Frame: gloss black, Radiator core support: semi-gloss black, Fan shroud: gloss black with moderate sheen, Inner fenders: black low sheen semi-gloss. I've been painting cars as a hobbiest for 27 years and know that there are a multitude of gloss levels that can be achieved. Gloss levels can vary greatly from one manufacturer to another. I've been using Dupont products for many years. So here's the question--------Can anyone out there help me with some Dupont paint codes for the different black paints used on the frame and components that will meet the Judging criteria. Also, can anyone tell me if GM reconditioning paint is acceptable for use on any parts of a 64 Corvette. Thanks, Phil

Re: C2 Frame and Misc Black Paint
I used PPG DP-90 primer and then coated my parts using PPG enamel with hardener on my 65. I used flatening agent to acheive the sheen I wanted. 1 QT flat or 10% sheen for a few items. 2 QT semi gloss or 40% sheen for the majority items including the frame and 1 QT gloss for the full gloss items. PPG's web site provides the mixing procedures for the correct ratio of materials. I am sure if you check, DuPont will provide the same information. I tried to acheive a visual difference between the black sheens.
Hope this helps!

Re: C2 Frame and Misc Black Paint
Thanks for responding Ray. I'll get with the Dupont guy and and get some different gloss levels of black paint and "guess my best" as to what looks right. I was always under the impression that the GM reconditioning paint was what was used on the inner fenders of most GM cars and trucks. The gloss level looks right to me but I'm not an expert. The JM says "black low sheen semi-gloss". The GM reconditioning paint states on the product label "satin black". Anyway, thanks again. I appreciate your input.
